Round table discussion meeting 20.11.2008
The Putting Children First round-table discussion meeting with policy makers, practitioners and academics was held yesterday in east London. The meeting discussed the recommendations put forward in the Best Practice conference paper and looked at them in the context of existing and emerging services.
The conference paper contains four key recommendations that the Centre for Separated Families identified as having emerged from the main conference themes. Following further discussion, it will be presented to government for consideration and implementation.
The meeting heard from Lorraine Schaffer of the Institute of Family Therapy who addressed the need to raise the profile of mediation and therapeutic support services, Yvonne Kee of NACCC on the need to invest in child contact centres and Karen Woodall of the Centre for Separated Families on the need to gender proof service delivery. The meeting also discussed the research recommendation called for in the conference paper.
Finally, Lynda Collis of the new Options service talked about how the Putting Children First approach worked in a statutory services context.
Further meetings will be held to continue the sharing of expertise and experience and the Putting Children First website will host an online discussion forum to further the debate.
